Other suggestions :

Contact your veterinarian, family members and post social media accounts to let people know you are looking for a home for your pet.  There are many people always looking for a new companion.

If you have a specific breed of dog/cat, look for rescues that are specific to that breed and ask if they offer courtesy listings.  All other breeds/mixes, ask all the rescues around town if they can offer a courtesy listing in their site as well.
