I want to spay/neuter my pet, but I cannot afford it. Do you have any suggestions?

I found a stray animal. Can you help?

Henrico Humane Society does not pick up stray or abandoned animals. When you find a stray animal, contact your local animal control. Stray animals have to be reported to local authorities and held (at the shelter or in your home) for a stray hold period (usually about 10 days) to give the potential owner time to reclaim the animal. Animals can be rehomed if the animal is not reclaimed during the hold period.

I’ve found a feral cat colony. Can you help?

Henrico Humane Society does not pick up or remove feral/community cat colonies. If you find a colony of cats, check with your neighbors to find out if the cats are being cared for and if they are spayed and neutered. A good indicator if cats are being properly cared for is a notch in their ear to indicate they have been altered and vetted.
Removing cats from their location is not always the best option. Alley Cat Allies has helpful information on how to manage community cats.
