Volunteer Opportunities for Henrico Humane Society

 
 

If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities below, we will provide you with more details and training. Please select a category that you would be interested in volunteering for and fill out the online application. 

*All volunteers for these positions must be at least 18 years old.

 

Update Crate Cards:  Print out weekly crate cards for adoption stand.  Crate cards can be delivered by 10am on Saturdays to any 4 Paws locations (the 4Paws transport person will deliver them to adoption stand) OR deliver them directly to the adoption stand on Saturdays by 11 am. Must have access to internet, e-mail and color printer

Review Electronic Dog Applications and e-mails:  Check the HHS dog adoption email daily to answer questions and review adoption applications.  Must be able to compose professional, courteous e-mail responses to interested individuals in a timely manner. Must have access to the internet and e-mail. 

Coordinate Adoption Stand:  Send out the adoption stand e-mail to all stand volunteers.   Help coordinator who is picking up from 4 Paws and Battlefield locations and who can be working stand each weekend.  Must have access to the internet and e-mail. 

Transport to/from Adoption Stand/ Four Paws:  Transport the dogs located at a Four Paws location (Atlee, Hamilton and Southside) to adoption stand in Short Pump and back.  Dogs to be delivered to stand by 11am and picked up at 3pm.  Must use own car and have a good driving record. Volunteer must be very comfortable around all kinds of dogs.

Transport to/from Stand/Battlefield Park Kennel: Transport the dogs from Battlefield Park Kennel in Varina to adoption stand in Short Pump and back. Must have car to accommodate crates for dogs. Minimum commitment of once each month.  Must have good driving record. Volunteer must be very comfortable around all kinds of dogs.

Assistant: Adoption stand: Looking for a committed individual(s) on Saturdays once a month to drive HHS van to and from adoption stand. Both the van and stand are located in Short Pump.  Assist with set up and break down of the adoption stand. Saturdays 11am -3pm. 

Screener: Adoption Applications:  Screen pet applications at Adoption Stand on Saturdays. Must be professional, have good judgment, the ability to read people and to be firm with answers. (Training will be provided).

Foster: Cats and Dogs:  Individuals that can foster a dog or cat.  Fostering is a very rewarding experience where you have a chance to love, help train and care for animals in your home environment.   Fosters must bring animals to weekly adoption stands. Training will be conducted and a Foster Contract must be signed.  All medical expenses are supplies are paid for by HHS.

Foster Coordinator for Cats: One or two individuals to coordinator the Foster Program for the cats of Henrico Humane. Being flexible and having excellent people skills are required to both find and support the Foster parents as well as judging proper cat/foster placement. Duties include: checking in on the foster animals and families, making sure they are prepared for getting cats to adoption stands, coordinating food, toy and medical needs. Training provided.  Must have access to e-mail and internet.  

Foster Coordinator for Dogs: One or two individuals to coordinator the Foster Program for the dogs of Henrico Humane. Being flexible and having excellent people skills are required to both find and support Foster parents as well as judging appropriate dog/foster placement.  Duties include checking in on the foster animals and families, making sure they are prepared for getting dogs to adoption stands, coordinating food, toy and medical needs. Training provided.  Must have access to e-mail and internet.

 

Vehicle Coordinator: Individual would be responsible for the HHS automobiles (2).  Duties include: keeping track of necessary maintenance, making sure that the tags are current, that the vehicles are inspected, etc.
