Molly and Ford Notes: Hi, I just wanted to send an update on Ford. He has been with us for about
a year now and has been a wonderful addition to the family. As you can see
from the picture Mollie and Ford (on the right) get along spectacularly.
They play together all the time, and everyone loves him He gets compliments
on his beautiful coat and markings wherever we go. |
Meeshka Notes:
Just wanted to drop a line a let you know what a wonderful dog "Chunky Monkey" now Meeshka (Bear in German) is. She now lives with us on the Outer Banks of NC. I thought you would like to see what a Beach Bum she has become..

Notes:
Thanks for getting back with me. Ben is such a joy! He is really is an integral part of our family. The kids adore him. He has such a great personality and loves to play hard and give lots of love. Miranda has been training him, and he has learned to heel, sit, down, stay and sometimes come....he has a bit of trouble with that one! |

Skipper Notes: Jan, I am so thrilled with Skipper that I had to send you a picture of him in his new home! The camera flash in his eyes made them a weird color, but that's okay. He has blossomed into a playful, happy little guy who loves to cuddle, has learned many new words, and is just so adorable! So many people will only adopt a puppy - adopting a grown dog has so many benefits! Skipper is totally housebroken, obedience trained, and no chewing! And what joy he is bringing to me! I love him so much, thanks again for making it possible for me to get him! |
Mickey
Notes: This is an update on Mickey (aka Doodle, aka Poodle), the crazy Jack Russell Chihuahua mix that we have now had for a year. We seem to have settled into a routine, and Mickey now has full run of the house with only the occasional accident. We love him to pieces and delight in his constant demand for belly scratching and his need to lie down on floofy things. He knows a number of words, including “sit” and “outside”, and it is hilarious to see how fast he can scramble up the steps to the bedroom when the TV clicks off. He’s still wary of non-pack members (read: growls with the confidence of a dog 10 times bigger than he is and barks his head off), but we are trying to acclimate him more and more all the time. He loves snuggling with his Daddy! Anne-Marie and Derek Leake (Received 10-6-03) |
Notes: In September of 1999, my family moved into our first house. We had saved for several years and built a wonderful house with a wonderful fence and a wonderful yard that needed a wonderful dog. My husband was reluctant to give into this request as he comes from a line of people who don’t fancy animals. My family is the opposite, for if you don’t own some type of creature, you are looked upon as strange. Well, I did get that dog. His name is Robbie and he’s a chocolate lab. He is a strange little dog who is grumpy most of the time and doesn’t really like people. My heart dropped when after almost a year of trying to bond with him, I realized that he was a loner and wasn’t going to give me the companionship I longed for. As a child, I was loved by my animals and loved them very much. I was an only child who played with my animals many hours for they were my brothers and sisters. In June, 2001, I started looking for a dog to adopt to help me fill the void that existed in my heart. I had tried to give Robbie companionship, but he’d have none of that. The Henrico Humane Society’s website was full of wonderful information on dog adoptions so I knew what their policies were and what to expect if I adopted a dog through them. When I first saw him, I knew that he was to be with me. I was so blown away by the picture of Jacob that I immediately sent an e-mail into HHS about him. The picture of him was taken with his sister, a Rottweiler. I couldn’t imagine why in the world someone was giving this dog up for adoption. As I truly believe that there are no coincidences in life, Jacob was meant to be with me and I with him. His regal look was breathtaking. Jacob is a 100-pound Black Labrador Retriever. I e-mailed about him and I received the telephone number for his human parents. The woman who answered the phone was very nice and up front about why her family had to give him and his sister up. The family had a child with medical problems and her medical care was extremely expensive. They had reached the maximum that their health provider would pay, so their expenses were no longer covered. I heard such wonderful things about Jacob and made an appointment with the family to visit with him. At first he growled at me and looked at me like, “ What are you doing here, strange lady?” Then, when his former Dad let him out into the yard, he knew things were all right. He chased balls and showed off until he could no longer take the excitement. He laid at my feet and went to sleep. I know now that that was his way of telling me that I was OK with him. I took him home the next afternoon and to the adoption stand to pay the adoption fee and do the paperwork that goes along with adopting. People visiting the adoption stand looking for that perfect dog looked at Jacob with envy. His beautiful black coat and big brown eyes were striking. He seemed proud to be there, out in public on his new leash and collar and with his new mom. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t thank God for this dog. He is my soul and my heart. I can cry on him, talk to him, laugh with him, share meals with him, take him on walks, take him on drives and the whole time I can feel that he is as proud to have me as a mom as I am to have him as my dog. It is true that there is just something about a rescued dog that the dog knows he’s been rescued and he will never forget it. He’s forever grateful to have me and I am forever grateful to have him. My dog, Jacob. |

Tucker Notes: Hi, Tucker (on the right) here, just checking in with my old pals at Henrico Humane. (My name was Thumper when I was rescued and lived with Jan and Ron Mitchell, but my parents thought that Thumper wasnt a good name for such a great boy.) Look at me now, I have an older but smaller brother named Riley and we are best friends. Let me tell you some of my favorite things:1. I LOVE my walks with Dad in the evening. 2. I LOVE my toys, especially the soft toys with squeakers. 3. Riley and I got a fence in the Spring and we LOVE to run around the yard chasing squirrels, I hope I catch one some day. 4. I also LOVE to be a couch potato and watch UVA football with my Dad on Saturday. I even have my very own spot at the end of the big couch. If someone is sitting in my spot and I want up I make sure to tell them to move (politely, of course). 5. One more favorite of mine, and its a little embarrassing to admit, I LOVE bananas. When my Mom gets home from the grocery store with a bunch of bananas I sit patiently in the kitchen, wagging my tail, until she gives me a piece of banana. One more thing before I go, I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me find my way into my new home (especially Jan and Ron). I am safe, warm, and loved. |
Rinnie
Notes: Rin Tin (Rinnie) was adopted by a couple who said he was the best thing that happened to them this past Christmas! As you can see, he has found a favorite spot - the blankets tell all. Good Luck to Rinnie and his new family!
Bailey
Notes: Just wanted to thank you all for giving us a wonderful addition to our family, Bailey. We adopted her from you in February 2000 after she lived three months of her life in a junkyard. She has been a complete joy to us and has been enjoying her new home. The shy little puppy she was when we adopted her is now the social butterfly. Here are some pictures.
Remington Notes: My family and I adopted a puppy on Sat for your Kroger location on West Broad Street his name was Wingtip and he is a lab mix puppy. He was one of three May dogs. He has been such a wonderful addition to our family and has fit in wonderfully. We have named him Remington and we are gratetful to have him. Thank you, Marcie Lesher and family. (Received 9/9/2003).
Jonathan
Notes: Hello, Just wanted to send a current picture of Jonathan "Johnny", 3 legged rottie that I adopted almost 3 years ago. He's doing very well, besides a start of some arthritis & a little gray around the muzzle. We moved & he now has a fenced yard but still enjoys his walks & car rides. He gets to do whatever he wants, especially when he's at grandma's house. He has a playmate that he loves to rough house with or just lounge around. He's certainly one of the best dogs I've ever owned. Enjoy the pictures attached!!
