Harmony's Story

Harmony found her forever home!! A very nice couple saw Harmony's story and had to come meet her. They had lost their precious Pointer to liver cancer in May. There just couldn't be a better match than this one. Harmony has a nice fenced in yard to romp in, her new mom takes her for nightly walks and she also has two older sweet sister K-9's to pal around with. Oh, and the wonderdog also gets to sleep in bed with Mom and Dad every night! Again Harmony is very appreciative of all the folks that have helped her through her rough journey to a new life. Officer Jesse who rescued her from the road and got the word out to help raise funds for her surgery. Care Cats and friends who donated time and funds to help with her care. Henrico Humane Society for taking her in and finding the perfect home for her. Dr. Zuccaro for donating his and his staff's time and surgeries, antibotics, pain killers whatever it took to make her well. There are countless others who pitched in for this well deserving sweet pup. As Dr. Z would say, she's one tough dog!! Harmony's new parents will send updates and pictures soon to let everyone know she is doing. This is a great new beginning for Harmony!Latest update: October 9, 2008
It's hard to believe but it has been 3 months since Harmony's awful encounter with a moving vehicle! She is doing splendid, really feeling, moving and acting great. She is becoming quite the funny player with her toys, she finally realized what those things were for! Harmony has now recovered from her spay, which was done on Sept. 23. Her x-rays which were taken then showed all the plates and screws were exactly where they should be and the bones had healed properly. So as we people folks would say, she is "Good to Go"! She is starting to show interest in playing with her foster brothers and is not so worried if it is going to hurt her legs anymore. She puts on quite a dancing show when its chow time. Her foster dad calls her "Dancer". Miss Harmony is ready now for the next chapter in her life, finding a wonderful, loving home. She is a truly a delight and will make you smile!Harmony Update: August 25th
2 1/2 weeks into her first heartworm treatment and Harmony is starting to feel pretty spunky. She has the cutest little tail wiggle, and a baby piggy type squeal when she sees you. Her legs look wonderful and they do not seem to bother her very much now. She wants to run, but we are discouraging that for now. Her 8 week recovery for her legs will be up on Sept. 5., so she will be making her first public appearance at the Bark in the Park festival on Sat. Sept. 12. She will have her second heartworm treatment on Sept. 3. She is definitely a trooper, and quite the nice, calm dog.
Harmony Update : August 6, 2008
Harmony's progress has just been amazing. She visited with Dr. Zuccaro yesterday and he was very pleased with the condition of both her legs. He took her on a parade through the office and said her gait was excellent, no problems! All the infection had cleared up and all the staples were removed.

She is well enough to go through the heartworm treatment, her first session is today. The reports so far are that she is doing great. She will return to her foster home on Friday for alot more rest. The little rascal has also gone into heat so she is quite anxious to escape her crate to play with her foster brothers, all four of them. They love her too! She will have to wait for her spay until she recovers from the heartworm treatment.
Harmony is a very special pup with such a sweet disposition and takes everything in stride. It seems she is very appreciative for her second chance at life and aims to please. If she could she would thank everyone that has played a part in her success story.

Meet Harmony, our little bionic miracle! Thanks to the valiant efforts of Officer Samantha Jessee of Caroline County, she is alive and on her way to a life of peace and harmony!
On July 7, Harmony was hit by a car on busy Hwy. 301 in Caroline County. A nice passerby immediately called Animal Control. When Officer Jessee went to pick her up, she could see she was in very bad shape. This poor dog had shattered bones coming through her skin, and both front legs had massive compound fractures. She was also blind in one eye from a previous injury. Things looked bleak for Harmony at first. But when this sweet dog tried to walk and wagged her tail for Officer Jessee, she knew this pup should have a chance at a good life.
Through generous donations from Care Cats and many other wonderful people, enough funds were raised for her to have major surgery on her injured legs. Plates and pins were surgically implanted to stabilize her on July 11.
After a week of rest with Officer Jessee, she is now in foster care with Henrico Humane Society.

Harmony has a long way to go before she can be adopted to a loving family that will show her the care and compassion she deserves. In addition to an 8 week recovery period for her legs, she needs heartworm and lyme disease treatments. Even with her extensive medical issues, she is in good spirits and has a wonderful nature. Named appropriately, Harmony's will to live is an inspiration to us all!
