Ring 1:
Dog Lovers Obedience, Ring 1, 10:30 am
Tom and Pat Lacy are owners of Dog Lovers Obedience School. Pat has been training since 1956, and founded Dog Lovers in 1976. Family dog training is Patšs specialty, and children aged 3 and older are encouraged to participate in the class and homework assignments. Members who are currently enrolled in classes at different levels of training will participate in the demos and will be available to answer questions. http://www.dogloversobedienceschool.com/
Blessing of the Animals by St. Francis Humane Society, Ring 1, 11am and 3:30pm
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, please join us to bless them all. The Blessing of the Animals is a custom in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisišs love for all creatures. St. Francis was a 13th century Italian who believed all creatures should be treated with dignity and respect. Animals, whether they be adorned with fur, feathers or scales, and their owners of all faiths are invited to the Blessings. The mission of St. Francis Humane Association is to promote responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals through education. SFHA is a non-profit group.
Virginia Search and Rescue Dog Association (VSRDA) Ring 1, 11:30am
VSRDA is a non-profit, volunteer organization where it's members train their own dogs to assist local authorities in searching and finding lost persons in the wilderness. Our services are free and offered to any law enforcement agency in the state of Virginia who contacts the Department of Emergency Management. Our dogs and their handlers must pass both the Virginia State, and National ARDA certification tests of excellence, before they are allowed to be deployed. The dogs utilize the technique of airscenting, to find any human in their search area, thus eliminating the need to have scent articles prior to searching. Therapy Dogs and Associates , Ring 1, 3pm
Therapy Dogs and Associates was formed in 1984 by Pat McDaniel Lacy. Pat has had over forty years of training and evaluating dogs. There are about thirty dogs of all ages and breeds in the group who have been selected by Pat based on their obedience skills and temperament. All of the dogs have completed obedience training classes and many have been recognized by the Therapy Dog International organization. All of the Associate members own their dogs and act strictly as volunteers. Every month the group visits patients in hospitals and nursing homes in the Richmond Virginia area. http://www.therapydogsandassociates.org/
Ring 2:
Canine Good Citizen Testing, Ring 1, 10:30-12:30
CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs that pass the 10-step CGC test will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Fee is $10. Register at Ring 2. CGC testing done by Mary Zoller of whole Dog Training and Behavior Consulting.
Pet First Aid Demo by American Red Cross, Ring 2, 1 pm
Did you think that Red Cross was only for people? Not anymore. The American Red Cross is please to demonstrate some first aid and life saving skills as well as answer questions in this demo. http://www.redcross.org/va/richmond
Disaster Preparedness for Pets, Ring 2 , 1:30pm
Learn how to prepare your pet family members, both large and small, for emergencies or disasters both large and small. Chris Miller works as a planner for the VA Department of Emergency Management and has given personal and pet preparedness presentations to varied audiences for years.
Acupuncture Demonstration by Full Circle Veterinary Services, Ring 2, 2pm
Dr Allison Faber has been a veterinarian for 13 years, as an equine veterinarian for 7 years, and small animal vet for 3 years. She began Full Circle Veterinary Services to incorporate her experience in veterinary medicine with alternative therapies, including chiropractic, acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Her practice is currently limited to complimentary medicine and equine performance, and she works on horses, dogs, and cats. http://www.fullcirclevet.net/
Top 5 Dog Behavior Issues, Ring 2, 2:30
Tonya Irizarry is the Vice President for the Henrico Humane Society and has been working with dogs for over 5 years. She has most recently worked for K-9 consultants. She specializes in dog psychology and problem behavior. She encourages owners to gain control over their dogs through leadership. Her motto is "Train, Don't Complain!" Come learn the top 5 behavior issues in dogs and how to overcome them.

The Richmond Ferret Rescue League is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter for ferrets only. Since 1998, we have taken in over 1,400 ferrets and have placed 1,100 in permanent, loving homes. RFRL holds an annual ferret show at the Virginia State Fair each year, participates in the Ferret Legging contest for the Celtic Highland Games every October and visits various nursing homes and children's schools to help educate and provide entertainment for the public.
Our contests and classes this year for the Pet Expo are:
- Tube Racing- is your ferret the fastest through a pipeline?
- Ferret Sniff alike- You think you know your ferret- but can you pick out your ferret if blindfolded by their smell? NO FANCY PERFUMES OF FRUITY SPRAY ALLOWED. The judge will take a whiff of each ferret before the contest to make sure no one has "marked" his or her ferret.
- Nascar racing- It's that time of year again- start your engines- or, start your ferrets! Cars and fuel are provided by RFRL.
- Celebrity look-alike. Does your ferret look like Brad Pitt, or maybe Jay Leno? Maybe Oprah?? Bring out these stars and weasel war dance down the red carpet.
- Ahnuld class- Does your ferret have the abs of an Arnold Schwarzenegger? The butt of a wrestler? you provide the ferret, we'll provide the scales.
- Costume Class
